A reasonable driver, but no variable speed October 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This driver has an attractive design which is lightweight, comfortable to hold and compact. The plastic charger base is quite convenient as it holds the supplied driver bits as well as the driver while it's charging, plus it can be wall mounted.
The Lithium-Ion battery is a major plus - it lasts longer than old fashioned Ni-MH and NiCd batteries and has no memory effect so you can recharge it whether its completely empty or almost full with no ill effects. However, the 3.6V rating is only middle of the road so, as other reviewers have stated, this driver doesn't really have enough power for serious carpentry but is perfectly adequate for flat pack assembly.
I was impressed with the novel battery status lights feature. You can press a small button to get a fairly accurate idea of the amount of juice left in the batteries via 3 tiny traffic light LEDs on the top of the driver. It's such a simple idea but I've never seen this on any other similar products. The main LED spotlight is also useful if you're working in a gloomy cupboard!
I do have one significant complaint: in the description for this product, Amazon say this driver features "variable speed and reversing", but they're only half right. Obviously you can rotate clockwise or anticlockwise, but there's no speed control. It's either on at full speed or it's off. Personally, I was a bit disappointed that this feature was missing as I'm used to having it.
So overall, this is a pretty good electric screwdriver that will serve the average DIYer pretty well, but the lack of speed control limits its effectiveness a bit. 4 stars!
Classy little screwdriver October 10, 2008 Looks ace!
First of all, ditch the tin. If you're like me it's just overkill to have that kind of packaging when the charging dock can be fixed to a wall, or tucked away in a drawer. Seriously, why the tin?
The selection of bits is typical and typically useful. I BELIEVE the drill uses standard bits so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting a wider selection cheap. Specifically the included bits have flat screwdriver blades that are too narrow for most jobs you'll be using this with, leading to potential "gnawing" at the screw head. Perfectly okay if you're careful but worth mentioning.
The drill itself is a joy to use, fits my hand perfectly and seems to last an age on a full charge. Assembling flatpack is what this sort of tool is born for and it manages very well, narrow bladed bits notwithstanding.
As other reviews have mentioned if you're hoping to use this for more general carpentry then the drill suffers as much as but no worse than a lot of larger screwdrivers - it just doesn't have the same power as the human arm/wrist and at times you'll need to either start or finish jobs manually.
Worth every penny if you're an Ikea addict!
A real good looker! September 30, 2008 Sometimes you get a product in a box, which you open, use and pretty much ignore.
Then you get the "Tonino Lamborghini 3.6V Litium-Ion Screwdriver"!
First off, I don't think this is a tool for a trades-person.
But for the rest of us having a small light weight easy to use cordless screwdriver, that looks great around the home, this is the iPod of the tool world! It also has a little torch to help you in tight corners.
The only real complaints are, getting the screw heads out of the plastic strip holder is a bit too difficult for my liking, there isn't any extra torque settings for the tougher jobs and the design may be a little too small for those with larger hands.
Other than these small complaints I found this screwdriver an absolute delight, packaged in a fantastic stylish tin, this is a real treat to open & own!
Must have for all diyer's September 26, 2008
This is a great little cordless screwdriver. It comes with a selection of screwdriver bits, and a holder that can be fixed to a wall.
I have found that if you pre-drill a decent sized pilot hole, this screwdriver can drive the screw in all the way. If your driving a screw into a tighter hole, then it will only go in half way, and you will have to finish of with a normal hand screwdriver.
This screwdriver is ideal for someone who gets wrist pain (like I do) when needing to repeatedly put in screws. I will never be without one of these again for any diy job, just wish I'd had one when I put my trellis arch together.
The only criticism I have is that the holder seems cheaply made, and the bits can be hard to pull out of the plastic that sits in the holder.
What a superb piece of hardware! September 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not a big diy person but this is something else. I was initally interested in this because of its good looks and the branding. I wasn't disappointed. Apart from looking fantastic (obviously the Lamborghini influence coming through), it handles like a dream (again the car influence!). It feels light to use but at the same time is designed with a lot of thought so it fits perfectly in the hand. Its well balanced and when in use its much quiet then other drills that I've used over the years. Performance wise, its really fast at tackling screws with little effort.
It comes with a number of varying drill ends that easily clip into the nozzle without the need for keys to tighten. The gun type control switches easily between screwing in and out and the action is smooth, regardless of the type or size of screw being tackled.
Another great little feature is a bright light on the drill for tackling those dark corners. A good idea! The drill fits easily in its cradle, along with the drill bits and holds its charge for several hours due to the Lithium-Ion battery.
Ergonomically perfect, fun to use and I think its a great price for the product. It comes in a rather fetching tin box as well!
