Good story badly written November 17, 2007 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I can't believe that the writers of the glowing reviews here read the same book as I did. I didn't enjoy it at all. In the interview printed at the end of the book the author tells us he was not taught how to write, and I'm afraid it shows. The tragedy is that I sense there is a good story here, but it's so poorly written that it's impossible to read. What a shame!
Splendid stuff! November 11, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Such a lovely book - his use of language is quite superb. I read it twice, and so did my husband, we couldn't stop laughing - we just didn't want it to end. Can't wait for the sequel!
A laugh out loud book October 21, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I came across this book by chance in our holiday apartment in Carcassonne. The rather odd title drew my attention first and I`m so glad it did, after a few pages I was hooked. The exploits of Terry, Monica and Jim had me laughing out loud. The short sentences did seem a little strange at first but after a few pages this style of writing felt normal. I would recommend this book to anyone especially if you are travelling to France.
Narrow dog to carcasonne October 3, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I travelled across the channel and through the canals of France with Terry, Monica and Jim. I laughed out loud at their escapades and look forward to their next adventure. A real treat that can be read time and time again.
Lovely Book October 2, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I must admit that I came to this book with some prior knowledge having crossed the Channel under my own steam although not in a narrow boat, and I have also cruised the French Canals so I am perhaps slightly biased. Nevertheless I feel that this is a thoroughly enjoyable and heartwarming book. Read at your peril though as you will find yourself wanting to dine with Terry and Monica and take Jim home with you!
