Customer Reviews:
Excellent November 25, 2007 A beautiful memoir of a life with an incredibly badly behaviour but fantastic dog. Excellent read, definitely recommended if you have a dog (or just want an amusing look at life with one)
If you have ever owned a dog.... November 16, 2007 then read this book! I was lucky to grow up with a Golden Lab who was so like Marley but at the time you think that these things only apply to your dog.
This book made me laugh out loud with the antics of Marley and how he came to make such an impact on John and Jenny's lives. The stories seem daft, stupid but if you have ever owned a dog you will know that these things happen, food gets taken, cushions get ripped open and you are greeted with such exuberance that it makes up for all those 'naughty' things.
Don't be afraid of this book, it spent two nights by my bed without being touched because I didn't want the book to end and obviously I didn't want Marley to come to the end of his life. Be warned you might need tissues to make it to the end. When you get there, it makes you think not just about how dogs (any pets) impact on our lives and also how we should be making the most out of our own lives.
A real feel good book for a long winter night by the fire. Highly recommended!
Don't read this in a public place!!! November 8, 2007 That is, if you don't want to embarass yourself!! A beautifully written book, it will make you laugh out loud in parts and REALLY cry in others (not just well up)! The author writes in a very easy style and the book is hard to put down. It teaches us about what really matters in life, and how it's possible to learn that through the unconditional love of a drooling, badly behaved dog!!! I am on my second copy of the book as I lent the first to a friend who was compelled to pass it on, she loved it so much - that's still happening a year on! Just bought and re-read again, and it still made me laugh and cry and I enjoyed it enormously again! If you read nothing else this year, read this!!
What a book!! November 8, 2007 I picked this book up quite by chance, it was on offer and I thought why not?? I am so pleased that I did. I think that it's the loveliest, funniest and saddest book that I have ever read. If you own a dog or have ever owned a dog you'll totally understand everything within this book. Marley and Me, tells the story of John, Jenny and family and how their lives are effected by this huge happy labrador. You live it with them and the stories that make you laugh your lungs out loud and stories that make you cry your heart out. It also reminds you of why we love dogs so much, it reminded me of stories of my long-passed dogs. The imagery is just amazing, this book is so very well written and you won't want to put it down. My only advice - you have to buy it!!
Oh Marley! November 6, 2007 I bought this book, as the story appealed to me of my own 'trying' puppy at the time. I found the story equally full of humour and upsetting as well. At times, it had me in fits of laughter, as well as tears of heart break. You can easily tell as you read through it, that John Grogan wrote it from the heart about Marley!
I recommend this book as a good read. Especially, if you have a 'misbehaving' puppy too. As you quickly identify the problems the author had with Marley, with yours as well.
