As a dog lover and a lab owner I loved this book. It is absolutely adorable and a great read.
Marley would have driven me mad! !! March 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ok, a confession : I'm a cat lover, not a dog person at all, but there was definitely something appealing about Marley. I guess it must have been his undying love for his master and family, it can't have been the incessant drool, constant wrecking behavior, or panic attacks during stormy weather.
The book begins with John and his new wife Jenny, setting out on their life together. They adopt a Labrador pup, only to find he has endless energy resources and very little brain! We follow them through their attempts to train their new pooch, the addition of three children to their family, changes in their work and home, through to the inevitable sad demise of their much loved pet.
While I could never live with a dog like Marley, he certainly provided constant entertainment and the book is testament to that. I admire his owners' tolerance and commitment. If you've got a mad dog this is compulsory reading, if you're thinking of going down this route, this book could make you think again, but if you just love dogs; read and enjoy.

A Extract from the book marley and me.
'He was a central player in some of the happiest chapters of our lives.Chapters of young love and new beginnings,of budding careers and tiny babies.Of heady successes and crushing disapointments; of discovery and freedom and self-realization.He just came into our lives just as we were trying to figure out what they would become. He joined us as we grappled with what every couple must eventually confront, the sometimes painful process of forging from two distinct pasts one shared future. He became part of our melded fabric,A tightly woven and inseparable strand in the weave that was us.Just as we had helped shape him into the family pet he would become,he helped to shape us,as well as a couple,as parents,as animal lovers,as adults. Despite everything, all the disapointments and unmet expectations,Marley had given us a gift,at once priceless and free.He taught us the art of unqualified love. How to give it,how to accept it.Where there is that, most of other pieces fall into place.'
I recommend this to everyone.

I have just finished reading this book, and have to say that it is one of most of the most brilliant and heartwarming animal stories I have ever read.
It has made me laugh, cry, smile and grimace, but I enjoyed it all the same.
I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who is an animal lover.
