Not as good as other Wibbly Pig books October 20, 2003 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Pretty pictures as usual, but I didn't like the story. Maybe it was too off-beat, the strange combination of Wibbly and a traditional "Jack & the Beanstalk" story. I didn't like the North American English either (e.g. Lady Bug), but I guess if I had bought a French book it would be in French!
most inventive lift-the-flap book I know May 19, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The surprising way Mick Inkpen has used the flaps in this story actually made me laugh out loud, yet my two year old son can find his way round the book and likes to hunt for the small insect on each page. It's a great story to read out loud and children can soon learn to repeat the phrases. A twist on Jack in the Beanstalk.
Will appeal to adults and explorative toddlers alike. September 3, 2001 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
A lovely book, with lots of flaps (some quite complicated with multi-layers) for the youngsters and some bits of humour to appeal to adults. It is a re-take of Jack and the Beanstalk, with some nice bits of natural history at the beginning (it features a vine weavil as Wibbly Pig's companion), with, as usual, a happy ending.
Pretty, not much to grab attention. April 17, 2001 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Wibbly is a very nice pig, but this lacked a focus, the little bugs aren't very gripping, not a lot happens and the hen behind the leaves is already in danger of decapitation.
Good storyline, shame about the construction January 10, 2001 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
My 2 kids enjoy reading this book, the 5 year old has grown beans in reception class so is interested in the outcome. Unfortunately the flaps are not so large, so uniformly structured or so well stuck down as those in the other Wibbly Pig book, "Everyone Hide..", so I don't think the flaps will last long with my 2 year old's probing fingers.
