The Dog's Wotsits July 23, 2007 40 out of 43 found this review helpful
This is a fantastic book.
I have read plenty of dog behaviour books in my time, most of which seemed to make sense. But this is the kind of book that you read and everything just clicks straight away.
The only thing I now do differently with my dogs is to exercise, feed and fuss them in a different order, but the effects have been amazing. I am now a very confident leader of my pack and I would recommend this book to each and every dog owner on the planet.
Cesar Millan is a legend!
If you only read ONE dog book, read this one, BUT.... July 21, 2007 18 out of 20 found this review helpful
.... if you've already read quite a few, you won't find this one radically different from Jan Fennell et. al. It's basically another book about how dogs should be treated as though they are members of your pack, and so on and so forth.
The main difference between this book and a few of the others I've read is the amount of emphasis that is put on taking your dog for a long walk, every day, early in the day. That alone was a revelation to me (evening dog walker) and has made a difference to my pair.
The best dog book yet June 21, 2007 63 out of 68 found this review helpful
I have a whole library of dog books, having 6 rescued dogs in the house, but this is the best of the lot. Cesar has the most amazing intuitive understanding of dogs and communicates it clearly and simply. This isn't a dog training manual, but is a down to earth guide to understanding our dogs and the way our own behaviour and attitudes affect them. It makes perfect sense. If you only buy one dog book, buy this one. Cesar is definitely top dog!
A MUST read for every dog owner! May 3, 2007 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
In my opinion this (or any of Cesar Millans books) is the only book a dog owner needs as an education to having a rewarding and positive relationship with the dog/s in the their lives and it should be compulsory reading for anyone thinking of owning a dog, and especially all those already in a relationship with man's best friend.
Using case studies, his professional experiences as well as drawing on his own personal life experiences canine and human, Ceasar examines a dogs basic psychological needs in an interesting and informative way, offering simple but effective instructions and advice as to how 'we' can best accommodate those needs so that the whole 'pack' - the canine and human family - is functioning as a happy, healthy, balanced whole as a direct result of calm assertive leadership by the pack-leader...the pack-leader being YOU the person reading the book! It's a new way of thinking. To quote Cesar himself 'it's not dog training - it's people training!' and having read through his philosophy I wholeheartedly agree and can honestly say I am glad beyond all belief to have the opportunity to retrain in this way...
I bought this book two weeks ago and it has radically changed the relationship I have with my dog for the better! She is so much happier and so am I. The book has not only given me the understanding to accommodate my dog better and to truly appreciate 'her', but it has also given me insight into understanding myself better. In buying this book there is NOTHING to lose, but everything to gain - it will be on my recommendation list for years to come!
The best book I ever read! July 3, 2006 38 out of 40 found this review helpful
Every dog owner should be made to read this book before purchasing their dog. It helps owners to get the best from their dogs and it certainly helps the dogs to get the best from their owners and life generally. Cesar is gifted in the art of understanding a dogs mind, the advice this book will give you will have a huge and positive impact on your home life with your dog! A definate MUST READ!
