5 out of 5 stars Wow   November 12, 2007

Having seen the TV series, I bought Cesar's book and starting to implement the methods described. I was having difficulties with our rescue German Shepherd who was agressive towards most things that moved on our walks - Cesar Millan like many dog behavorists encourage owners to treat dogs as dogs which was a odd concept to me but boy does it work. And the best of it is - our dog is much happier, contended and less confused about life now. I highly recommend this book, there's lots of practical advice for dog owners and also advice for those looking to get a dog such as choosing one which suits your energy level!

The reviews before mine say it all apart from the one person who obviously hasn't got a clue about dogs dont let that put you off! Absolutely fantastic, simple common sense doesn't get any better.

5 out of 5 stars Better than all the rest   October 23, 2007

Brilliant book. Bought the dvd from America and wasn't at all impressed but the book is great. Have had dogs for 50 years and trained both them and other peoples dogs and thought I knew a lot about dogs but having read this book I realise how much I didn't know, just wish I'd had this book when I started out. It makes so much sense and beats hands down all the other books I've read, (especially those new 'experts' on tv). They would do well to read this book. Can't recommend it highly enough.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful book for training we humans!   October 22, 2007

This book is absolutely top notch!
It is not a book to help you to get bowser to sit, stay, fetch etcetera.
It is NOT a dog training manual per se but a book to help you finally realise that your canine companion is just that - a DOG!
As Cesar points out continuously we tend to humanise our doggy pets, completely forgetting/ignoring that they are not the same species as we are.
They don't understand life in the same way as we do.
We worry about the future. We live in the past and more often than not we ignore the now.
Dogs live in the NOW, plain and simple as that and most of their problems come from our misguided attempts of treating them like small, furry people.
It is a wonderful read too with some real insight into the man himself, with no punches pulled about his own rites of passage which have led him to who and where he is now.
A deeply fascinating read and one after which I got an immediate change of reaction from my troubles, 4 year old rescue Collie by a simple change of leading method.
A truly brilliant book as long as you will be dedicated to change YOUR life to change the lifestyle and happiness of your dog in return.

Sorry for the bad title! Of the countless books for dog owners, this really is one of the best - It makes you aware of the behaviours that you cause in your dog.
I don't know what the Cesar hater can possibly fault with this book - the techniques work. Although they may not be 'new' ideas, they can hardly be called out-dated - It has more to do with the fact that Cesar makes you aware so you can implement them at the correct time. Perhaps that guy is a disgruntled author of another dog book!
