Amazon.co.uk Review When silly Billy's beetle escapes from its matchbox home the hunt is on to track him down, and before long a host of characters including the owner of a very sniffy dog, a polar bear (who just joins the search for fun), a brass band and an elephant get in on the act. Clear, action-packed illustrations and easy-to-follow, sly, witty text make this hilarious and colourful book a joy for young readers, drawing them in to the adventure and encouraging active little minds to join in the search themselves. As smart as ever, Inkpen wins again with a tale to make you smile. (Ages 2 to 5) --Susan Harrison

A wonderful book. My 2 year old loves it and enjoys looking for the beetle on each page (and outsmarting the sniffy dog). Humorous twist at the end. (And beautifully illustrated, as always.)
Brilliant for reading aloud! December 11, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is one of our family's favourite books. The storyline is simple enough for the youngest children to follow, but not boring for the adults who have to read it again, and again, and again...! The illustrations are great too - can YOU find the beetle?
I like this book because I like Mick Inkpen's drawings. March 6, 2000 I thought it was a good book. I like reading Mick Inkpen's books. I have read "Kipper" as well. Billy's beetle is a very funny book about a boy losing his beetle. Lots of different people help Billy to find it. by Jessica Shaw
Excellent - our two year old requests this again and again October 7, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mick Inkpen's style shines in this marvellous book. The child searches for the small beetle on every page and the humour keeps adults amused every time. Well done Mick !!
