Follow up from Carcassone August 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed the previous book, Narrow dog to Carcassone, which I read on holiday last year. I waited with bated breath, and eager anticipation for this follow up journey, which was mentioned on the last few pages. - Have just read the first two chapters, hence only three stars up to now, and so far the American adventure has not yet begun, but Terry has a "turn of phrase" that makes me chuckle out loud. Monica, his long suffering wife, is an excellent "straight woman" for Terry and his "daftness". Monica is the heroine of both tales and Jim the whippet offer the light releif. Must get back to the book now.
Narrow Dog to Indian River August 9, 2008 This, the sequel to Narrow Dog to Carcassone, is a gem. Both books are beautifully written, one minute bringing a smile to the face, the next a tear to the eye.I wanted to read each one at a single sitting, but ended up reading as slowly as possible, as I did not want the journey to end. If you like good travel writing, canals and lakes and wild rivers, eccentric characters, keen observation of the absurdities of life, dogs (especially greedy, cowardly, oversexed whippets), then these are the books for you. And if you don't, then you are a sad person, but you should read them anyway, because they are very funny.

Inspiration for retirees August 5, 2008 I have just finished Narrow Dog to Indian River, purchased because I so enjoyed the first book Narrow Dog to Carcassonne. I thoroughly enjoyed them both and do not hesitate to recommend them to anybody who enjoys travellers tales and dry humour.Terry and Monica are a particular inspiration to people about to, or are already retired, as the books prove that if you enjoy moderate good health there is still so much you can achieve, whatever your age. Fantastic July 25, 2008 A friend of mine bought me the first book (Narrow Dog to Carcassonne) as a birthday present. I've never read a book that made me laugh out loud so much. Brilliant. I was delighted to see the new book on sale and bought it immediately. I confess to saving it till I had time to sit down and really enjoy it. The stories and anecdotes are excellent, but it's the way the books are written that make them for me. Jim, the dog, is tremendous. The two books are fantastic and provide hours of pleasure. Thanks.
outstanding July 22, 2008 This is a truly entertaining tale. Terry, Monica and Jim are so vividly described that you feel you are actually on the adventure with them. The breathless, 'run away' style of prose gives a real feel of each event so that you can enjoy the pace and activity in person. The amusing descriptions are delightful and the whole book is a wonderful read.
